A family with five sons live on a farm in a remote, rural Kazakh village. In accordance with Eastern traditions, the eldest son Aslan (13) becomes his father’s deputy, taking charge of delegating all work tasks. One day Aslan takes his brothers to the local river for a swim – a moment of deep happiness. However, from then on, their lives start to change. And when Kanat, an unknown cousin, unexpectedly arrives at the village, the structured life of the family begins to fall apart for good.

Born in 1984 in Alga Province in Kazakhstan, Emir Baigazin studied at the Kazakh National Academy of Arts in Almaty, majoring in film direction and cinema. In September 2007, he studied in the Asian Film Academy (AFA) at the Busan International Film Festival. In February 2008, he participated in the Berlinale Talent Campus at the 58th Berlin International Film Festival. Baigazin is a member of the Asian Pacific Screen Awards (APSA).
